After my good tutorail with Del i got onto looking into the various different alleys i could take my idea.
This is an excerise me and Del talked about, about drawing a picture and the picture dominates the space not the picture is dictated by the space. I like this idea, i will be taking this further because of the large fern leaves. I think i would have to get into some laser cutting or relief on some sheet steel to make these leaves. Food for thought this one.
These are some quick sketchs i did of different ideas how to use the space instead of the traditional half circle panel. Some particular faveriote of mine are the ferns filling the space, two of them wrapping around the arch way sort of breaking the straight line of the arch. I really like the idea on the top of the second picture, the petals. It was an idea from Ambrose had and i was a little sarcy about it but its really nice.
I ran into HE center on friday evening to get some copies quickly, i wanted to get some more experimenting with the idea of dressing the space in a different way. These are the first two when i was just sort of getting into it, dipping the toe in the idea if you will.
These two are the most organic when im just using plants on the arch, the first one was a little crazy i sort of thought i wanted to see what it would be like for the vines to completly take over the space i think other than being a tripping hazard it seems like a buck load of work for something that would just look as good if i planted some vines into the space. Something Adrian told me that dont just make nature because you will never make it look as nice make your own creation. The second one is just making an idea i have been working with of making up some fern plants and getting them up in the space. I have to refer to my previous point on why i wont be doing just the ferns hanging down.
These are a couple different ideas i got hold of, i wanted to design something that would take up the space but just give the vines a different way to fill the space. It reminded me of a picture i saw from berrington hall.
I really thought about bringing this sort of idea of hanging the vines and leaves down from different angles and shapes. If i am perfectly honest i am not a fan of either idea, i really dont want to take the idea of messing with the archway anywhere. It is traditional its far to moderny to me and is a real mood killer when i think about putting them in the space for me.
Over the weekend i decided to start looking for some leaves and putting them into my sketchbook so i can start forging them up straight from primary sourse.
This is some of the forging tests i have been doing, i think im getting really close to having the leaf down in the steel. On wednesday i really need to start some refining on this one.
This is a sample i was working on for an hour or so, i was trying to make the leaf shaped and texture piece but on a larger scale. I am quite happy with the piece, it took some time and both ends arent much to look at but the center when you can see the texture is what i am really intrested in.
Well there is the big post, other than that its been a pretty uneventful few days other than getting a pretty rude email off Simon about cultural studies nothing happened.
