8th of October

Well its the second week, we just recieved the two major briefs today so i thought i would put up a post about the stuff im thinking towards the briefs and a few things on my mind.

Last week we got our timetable of what we will be doing over the next year, few suprises for me personally. I didnt think there would be as much time in the HE center it seemed last year they never came into the HE but kinda nice to be back in there. Another thing on my mind is mondays, we have tutorails in the morning and with my name beginning with an S i can expect myself at the back but as a sort of health/had enough of drivers i have decided this year to walk to the forge which is around a one and half hour walk which i really dont mind doing, ive asked del to get me so my tutorails right at the start of the day and she says she can do it, its just whether the super busy lady remebers it. I wouldnt be too bothered about turning up abit late to Adrians sessions because i could discuss with him but we have Steve on Monday and im told he is a real ball buster. But lets get off niggles and moans.

For the briefs we have Design Development, a project designed to blacksmiths about building a piece of work to a choice of three different places. Il run through each one and what im thinking at this intial stage.

The first place we can build our work to is Berrington Hall a massive classical home, sort of downton abbey house i guess. The piece for the Hall is like a commision which is self written, my ideas so far is a i previously worked on some arch ways for inside a home like this and i had so many ideas on what i wanted to do. Its a project where i can make it as big as i can, and as unique as i can with my skill. I think its a ballsy product that isnt out of my limits.

The second place is folly lane, they are looking for pieces to put together into a large sculptural piece. The idea is build something in a square of 400 by 600 and 100 deep, it is supposed to represent the college. I have no idea for this one because i a so un intrested in it. Il have to come up with something on Wednesday when we go to see it, dont look for big things coming from this one.

And the third place is KGD Industrial Services, this is a bit of a wild card because they are looking to having there reception jazzed up with some forge work. They want it to represent what they do as a company, ive had a few ideas like a table with something to do with the place but it s a hell of an undertaking. Watch this space for ideas a buzz.

The second project we have been given is a purely techincal blacksmithing project given by Steve Mitchell called 3DSP.

What they asked us to think about is a field to specalise in that we find ourselves a little weak. We are supposed to work in and provide a range of research in that field. Personally i think im gonna look into repeating a similar product, one thing i have always had trouble with is repeating the same object by hammer and power hammer which makes tongs a real ball ache. So i would love to work the steve on these skills.

Big post today, might post tommorow with some of my pictures from Berrington Hall.
