Proposal to 3rd Year

For my 3rd year I really wanted to explore something that I dipped my toe in a long time ago but left because I didn't have the time. It was the idea of compressing steel under the power hammer or fly press, there is a sort of uniform to it but at the same time every time I have done its different.
I have got quite addicted to using two words to describe this project for me, Squish and Compress. To me there polar opposites that say the same thing, one is a heavy mechanical word the other is quite a childish word. The two together really lay out what i wanted to do with this project, I have quite a mechanical background and my material of choice is quite heavy but i want to show its childish side.
That's what really excites me about going into the project is there is an infinite amount of possibilities and out comes that i could do. Its something I have never done so I'm going in blind which is something new for me, in the past I choose projects on past knowledge so this is going be really different but what I think i need right now in my course.
Where I would like to get started is really moving the material around, in and out of the forge. I am very keen to get into the ceramics workshop and working with the clay like i will be moving the steel.
Once I am in the forge i want to start developing some ideas with different shapes under the hammer. Like what would it look like if i forged a piece down into a square then squished it down. Looking forward to this project and getting in the forge.
