27th of May

Hey guys thought i would put a quick post up before the mad week starts. Got one more week at my gate and im determined to get it finished, so i think i am in the forge all 4 days next week. Got a few things left to do on my list.

build hinge with ambrose - About Half way done
drill out 25mm hole of 50mm round then weld to 8mm bottom plate - starting tommorow
Work on hinge, bend and drill holes for back plate - Doing Wednesday or Thursday
Drill and bolt grass to center bar - Starting and hopefully finishing tommorow
Bend and drill grass for added strength - All of friday on this.

I have made some big steps since my last post, such as finishing the outline of the frame. Here is a few pictures on how it is going.

Hey guys, i thought i would post about how it was going after monday afternoon. I finished all the blades of grass.

Here are some pictures of how it went forging out the final 16 blades.

 

20th of May

Hey Guys, just a quick post this morning about a list i have made on everything that needs doing to my gate in the next two weeks.

Finish blades of grass,
cut front style
punch the two holes
build hinge with ambrose
drill out 25mm hole of 50mm round then weld to 8mm bottom plate.
Work on latch, bend and drill holes for back plate
Drill and bolt grass to center bar
Bend and drill grass for added strength


Alot to do in just two weeks but im confident i can do it. Updates on which ones i check off as i go.

16th of May

Hey team its been a few days of wanting to put up posts and not quite getting round to it so ive got one up now.

The gate is coming along great, the power hammer tool is working a treat. There is going to be a techy post up today about how to build up the jig and the repairs and upgrades i have had to do on it.

 

Here is a shot of the monster, i have made around six of the leaves up so around 25 more to finish off. I will be using the power hammer all tommorow to make them up so hoping to get around 12 to 13. 

I have also been drawing up the latch idea that i will be doing on the gate, picture of those coming up soon. 

 

12th of May

Hey guys, thought i would post today and catch up with whats going on at the moment with my work. 

Over the weekend i have been finishing up my WBL essay as well as my PDP work. I have nearly got both of them in the bag just like my dissertation proposal, i want to get to all my paper work wrapped up so i can concentrate on making.

As for making my full size drawing was finished just need to run it by Ambrose and Adrian see if it is all ok, the actual making i have finished preping the blades of grass to go under the power hammer and i have almost got the tennon ready for the center bar. 

I must admit on a more personal note i am starting to get more and more anxeity towards the project, the time is running out on it. I know i have only got to work on components but i keep building it in my head and wondering whether i can do it.

I will put some pictures up tommorow about the parts done so far.

7th of May

Morning people im up bright an early today. Thought i would put a post up about what i did over my 3 day weekend, i have wrapped up my dissertation proposal and my PDP is pretty done so i really need to get on WBL this week.

Also yesterday i finished up a full sized drawing, i must say after doing it i got a really good mental image and understood the design more.

One thing that did rise up while i was drawing it was, i dont know whether i need the 16th blade of grass. If i have it is going to hide the tennon or i leave it out and it frames it quite nicely.

I will have to run this by Ambrose and Adrian see what they think but i am thinking this could be the way to go for me. 

I must admit i kinda feel like im not doing much at the night but i suppose im not really doing much drawing for the piece im just making so i am just waiting for forge time and filling every second in the forge making this. 

2nd of May

Hey guys, little more energy today to post so hoping this one will fly through. Probably should stop doing these before bed might have more energy for them but thats a problem for another time.

Today was really good, i did my PDP presentation which basically means Discourse is done with for the year. Got a little bit to do on it but il finish that over the weekend get it all done.

The presentation wasnt really easy, i do get very nervous building up to talking in front of my colleges so it makes having a really flowing piece of work pretty difficult but i feel i did my work justice. Got a few questions which were easy then down quick to listen to some really intresting stuff.

I started drawing up the slight changes to the gate, i will do some drawing and get them up over the weekend and talk you guys through it.

In other news i got a picture of the power hammer shoe i am making, will get it all finished and ready to try out monday morning. I am also hoping to get some of the blades of grass prepped, basically i am going to bang a point onto both ends.

 

1st of May

Hey guys, its been a while since i posted here because with this gate project ive been forging all day then coming home shattered and falling asleep. I told myself today though i would post tonight about how im getting on.

The gate is progressing well im just in the prep stages, work starts friday on acutally shaping it. I have made a few descions recently i need to get down in the sketchbook and put up here. Im hoping to get that up Friday or maybe tommorow if the day is pretty loose.

On Bank holiday monday im hoping to get myself a new fullsize drawing of the gate done, i did one in Yorkshire which i left behind so i really need one here to work off.

Im getting pretty tired here people because this short post has took me well over twenty minutes so im going to sign off and get back to you tommorow with the news.
